Preventing back pain
In short: Most back pain is non-specific and linked to little movement, long sitting and tension. Regular movement and strengthening the trunk muscles help best.
In more detail: The back needs load, not rest. For acute complaints movement is usually better than bed rest.
In detail
- Lots of sitting: Get up and move every 30 to 60 minutes. A standing desk and breaks help.
- Lifting: From the knees, load close to the body, do not twist with a rounded back.
- Training: Strengthen trunk, glutes and back, for example with planks and rows.
- Ergonomics: Screen at eye level, feet flat, back supported (augen-und-bildschirm-digitale-augenbelastung-vorbeugen).
- Stress: Mental tension amplifies pain. Relaxation can help (stress-abbauen-und-entspannen).
- See a doctor: Immediately with paralysis, numbness, fever, bladder or bowel problems, or pain after an accident.
