Fire protection and behaviour in case of fire
In short: Most fires can be avoided through care. In case of fire: save people, emergency call 112, fight the fire only if it is safe.
In more detail: Fire smoke is the greatest danger; a few breaths can be fatal (rauchmelder-und-brandschutz-im-haushalt).
In detail
- Prevention: Do not leave candles and electrical devices unattended, do not overload extension sockets (steckdosen-und-sicherungen-im-haushalt).
- Fire extinguisher and fire blanket: Within reach in kitchen and hallway.
- Grease fire: Never extinguish with water (grease explosion), put on a lid or fire blanket.
- In case of fire: Sound the alarm, leave the flat, close the door, call 112.
- In smoke: Stay low to the ground, cloth in front of mouth and nose.
- Lifts: Do not use, use the stairwell.
- No escape route: Close the door, open the window, draw attention to yourself.
- Clothing on fire: Stand still, do not run; “stop, drop and roll” and smother with a blanket (erste-hilfe-grundlagen, verbrennung-und-feuer).
