Writing and formatting text

In short: In a word processor (for example Word or LibreOffice Writer) you type text and style it: font, size, bold, paragraphs and lists.

In more detail: You select text and then apply formatting. Formatting only changes the look, not the content. For longer texts it is better to use styles (Heading 1, Normal) so everything stays consistent.

  • Selecting: Drag with the mouse, double-click a word, triple-click a paragraph, Ctrl + A for everything.
  • Bold/italic/underline: Ctrl + B / I / U.
  • Paragraph: Enter starts a new paragraph. For spacing do not press Enter several times; set paragraph spacing.
  • List: Bullets or numbering via the icons in the ribbon.
  • Spelling: Red wavy lines show possible mistakes. Right-click offers corrections.
  • Printing/PDF: Ctrl + P. “Save as PDF” creates a PDF to send.
  • Margins and line spacing: In the “Layout” or “Format” tab.
