Connecting a printer and printing
In short: A printer is connected to the computer via USB or Wi-Fi. You print with Ctrl + P: choose printer, number of copies and pages, then “Print”.
In more detail: Modern printers are often recognised automatically by Windows and macOS. With Wi-Fi printers, computer and printer must be on the same network. Ink or toner and paper must be available.
In Depth
- USB: Plug in the cable, switch the printer on, the driver usually installs itself.
- Wi-Fi: Connect the printer to the home network (manufacturer’s guide), then on the PC under Settings → add printer or scanner.
- Print preview: Shows beforehand how the page looks. Saves paper.
- Important options: Page range, copies, colour or black and white, single/double-sided.
- Print job stuck: Open the queue, cancel the job, switch the printer off and on.
- Saving: Draft quality and black and white for everyday documents.
