Saving a file and finding it again
In short: Saving writes your work permanently to the storage device. “Save as” lets you choose name and place. Remember the folder and you will find the file again.
In more detail: Until you save, your work exists only in volatile memory. After a crash or power cut it is gone. So save early and often.
In Depth
- Save: Ctrl + S. The first time, “Save as” opens.
- Save as: You choose folder, name and file type (for example Word or PDF).
- Finding again: In File Explorer use the search at the top right, or open recently used files inside the program.
- Downloads: Files loaded from the internet usually land in the “Downloads” folder.
- Autosave: Some programs and cloud services save by themselves. Still be careful.
- Backup: Copy important files to a USB stick or the cloud as well.
