Rechargeable Batteries
In short: A rechargeable battery (accumulator) is a battery that can be recharged.
In more detail: When charging, electrical energy is stored chemically, and released again when discharging.
In Depth
Types
- Lithium-ion (Li-ion) and lithium polymer (LiPo): phones, laptops, EVs. High energy density.
- LiFePO4: long-lived and safer, popular for storage.
- NiMH: AA/AAA rechargeables, robust.
- Lead: car batteries.
Notes
Deep discharge and heat harm them. Damaged Li-ion batteries can catch fire. Dispose of them at collection points (Battery Act). See batteries, electric cars, chargers.
