Phishing Mails

In short: Phishing mails are fake e-mails meant to get you to click a link or open an attachment.

In more detail: They are the most common route for phishing and for starting ransomware. Good forgeries use real logos and flawless language.

In Depth

Recognising them

  • Check the sender address, not just the display name.
  • Hover over the link without clicking.
  • Unexpected invoices, reminders, parcel notices and account blocks are classic bait.
  • Unexpected attachments are suspicious.

Technical aids

The methods SPF, DKIM and DMARC check whether a mail really comes from the stated domain. Spam filters filter a lot in advance (spam e-mail).

What to do?

Do not reply, avoid link and attachment, report as phishing, and if data has already been entered, change the password immediately and inform the bank.
