Remote Control (by Attackers)
In short: Remote control means that attackers control an infected device from afar.
In more detail: This happens via a command-and-control (C2) server with which the malware regularly makes contact. The device executes commands without the owner noticing.
In Depth
Use by attackers
Send spam, carry out attacks (DDoS), steal data, infect more computers. Many remotely controlled devices form a botnet.
Detection and protection
Unusual connections to unknown servers, DNS filters, firewall with outbound rules, anti-malware, disconnect devices from the network when suspected and set them up again.
