How a dishwasher works
In short: A dishwasher cleans dishes with hot water, detergent and spray arms. Modern appliances use less water and energy than washing by hand.
In more detail: An eco programme often needs only about 10 to 12 litres of water.
In detail
- Spray arms: Rotating arms distribute water onto the dishes under pressure.
- Pump: A circulation pump moves the water in a circle, a drain pump removes it.
- Filters: Catch food scraps and should be cleaned regularly.
- Detergent: Contains enzymes and surfactants that dissolve fat and starch.
- Rinse aid and salt: Salt regenerates the water softener, rinse aid prevents spots.
- Drying: By residual heat, condensation or heat exchanger.
- Saving energy: Eco programme, fully loaded, no pre-rinsing.
- Use: Loading correctly: dirty side towards the centre; cutlery as per instructions (waerme-und-temperatur).
