Painting a wall step by step
In short: Good painting is largely preparation: cover up, check the surface, prime, then paint in even strokes.
In more detail: Wall paint (emulsion) is water-based, low-odour and suitable for most interior walls.
In detail
- Cover: Floor with sheeting or fleece, tape off sockets and edges with masking tape.
- Surface: Fill holes, sand smooth, wipe off dust, remove mould first (richtig-lueften-und-schimmel-vermeiden).
- Primer: Prime absorbent walls evenly.
- Order: First corners and edges with the brush, then the surface with the roller.
- Strips: Wet on wet, always finishing in one direction so no overlaps show.
- Two coats: Usually needed for full coverage; observe drying time.
- Tape: Peel off while the paint is still slightly damp.
- Ventilating and cleaning: Ventilate well, wash tools with water.
