Wallpapering: the basics
In short: Wallpapering succeeds with an evenly prepared surface, correctly measured strips and the right paste. Non-woven wallpaper is the easiest for beginners.
In more detail: With non-woven wallpaper the wall is pasted; with paper wallpaper the strip.
In detail
- Surface: Remove old wallpaper, fill holes, prime the wall.
- Measuring: Room height plus 10 cm allowance, cut strips; mind the pattern repeat.
- Starting line: Draw a vertical line with a plumb line; do not start at the corner.
- Paste: Mix to suit the wallpaper, apply evenly.
- Hanging: Hang the strip from top to bottom, smooth with a wallpaper brush, brush out air bubbles.
- Butt joints: Place strips edge to edge without overlap.
- Trimming: Cut overhangs at ceiling and floor with a spatula and knife.
- Sockets: Switch off power, remove covers (wand-streichen-schritt-fuer-schritt, werkzeug-grundausstattung-fuer-zuhause).
