Travelling sustainably
In short: Sustainable travel reduces environmental impact and strengthens the people on site. Particularly effective are the means of transport, length of stay and conscious decisions on site.
In more detail: Getting there and back usually causes the largest part of a trip’s CO₂ footprint.
In detail
- Transport: Train and long-distance coach save a lot of CO₂ compared with the plane (zugreisen-und-interrail, co2-fussabdruck-im-alltag).
- Stay longer: A few longer trips instead of many short ones.
- Close by: Discover destinations in the region.
- Accommodation: Small, locally run places, certifications such as EU Ecolabel.
- On site: Public transport, bicycle or on foot.
- Buy local: Regional products, fair prices, no haggling over small things.
- Protect nature: Stay on paths, leave no litter, do not disturb animals (plastikmuell-vermeiden-im-alltag).
- Offsetting: Only as a supplement; avoidance takes priority.
