Quiet hours and house rules
In short: In apartment buildings the house rules and local regulations determine when quiet must be observed. Night quiet from 10 pm to 6 am and a midday rest are common; municipalities and house rules set the details.
In more detail: The house rules are part of the lease if agreed. They may not disadvantage tenants unreasonably.
In detail
- Night quiet: Keep to room volume. This applies to music, television and parties.
- Sundays and public holidays: Loud work such as mowing or DIY is not allowed (state emission protection law).
- Normal living noise: Children laughing, cooking or showering must be tolerated. Children’s noise is not considered nuisance in the usual sense.
- Complaints: First speak kindly, then document (noise log) and inform the landlord in writing.
- Parties: Telling neighbours beforehand builds understanding (mietminderung).
