Fuel-efficient driving
In short: Anticipating traffic, shifting up early, lowering speed and avoiding unnecessary weight quickly saves several percent of fuel.
In more detail: Air drag grows with the square of speed. Even ten km/h less on the motorway lowers consumption noticeably.
In detail
- Drive smoothly: Little braking and accelerating. Let the car roll up to traffic lights with momentum.
- Overrun fuel cut-off: In gear and off the throttle a modern engine uses practically no fuel.
- Tyre pressure: Pressure that is too low raises rolling resistance (reifendruck-richtig-pruefen).
- Ballast and roof box: Every extra kilo and the roof box raise consumption.
- Air conditioning: It needs energy. At low speeds use windows, at high speeds rather the air conditioning.
- Short trips: A cold engine uses disproportionately much.
