Calculating fuel consumption
In short: Consumption in litres per 100 km is calculated as the amount refuelled divided by kilometres driven times 100.
In more detail: Fill up fully, note the odometer, drive and fill up fully again. The amount then refuelled equals the consumption over that distance.
In detail
- Formula: Consumption (l/100 km) = litres ÷ kilometres × 100. Example: 42 l over 600 km is 7.0 l/100 km.
- Cost per trip: Consumption ÷ 100 × distance × price per litre.
- EV: Consumption in kWh/100 km = kWh charged ÷ kilometres × 100.
- On-board computer: It often shows values that are too low. The fuel receipt is more accurate.
- Influencing factors: Speed, load, tyre pressure, air conditioning and driving style (spritsparend-fahren).
