Online accounts and filling in forms
In short: For many services you create an account (email, password) and fill in forms. Give only what is needed and use a separate password for every account.
In more detail: Required fields are usually marked with *. After registering you often confirm your email address via a link. You can usually delete an account later.
In Depth
- Registering: Email, password, maybe name. Skim the terms of use and privacy notice.
- Confirmation mail: Click the link, otherwise the account stays inactive. Check the spam folder.
- Autofill: Browsers can fill in address and password. That saves time but requires a secure computer.
- Two-factor sign-in (2FA): Extra code via app or SMS. Greatly increases security.
- Give data sparingly: Date of birth and phone number only when really needed.
- Signing out: Always sign out on other people’s computers.
