Open Food Facts
In short: Open Food Facts is a free database, maintained by volunteers, with millions of foods from around the world. Anyone can add products with an app.
In more detail: The data is under the Open Database License (ODbL) and available through an open interface. There are sister projects: Open Beauty Facts (cosmetics), Open Pet Food Facts (pet food), Open Products Facts (other goods) and Open Prices (prices).
Our context: The product scanner queries these databases through our server. Only the barcode number is transmitted. Every result names its source.
In Depth
- Quality: Volunteer data can contain errors or be outdated or incomplete. That is why the scanner shows the “data quality” and rates nothing that is not in the data.
- ODbL: You may use the data, must credit the source and share changes under the same licence.
- Contributing: If a product is missing, you can add it with a photo of the packaging.
- Barcode: Barcode: EAN, GTIN and GS1.
