In short: A microcontroller is a small chip with processor, memory and connections for sensors and actuators.

In more detail: It takes over fixed control tasks, for example in a washing machine, car, remote control or heating controller.

Arduino (ATmega), ESP32/ESP8266 (with Wi-Fi), Raspberry Pi Pico (RP2040), STM32.

Programming

In C or C++ and often in MicroPython. Unlike a PC (see Raspberry Pi), usually no full operating system runs, but a program directly on the chip. See C, circuit boards, cyberdeck.
