Bones, muscles and joints
In short: The skeleton gives the body support and protects organs, muscles move the bones via tendons, joints connect bones movably.
In more detail: An adult has around 206 bones and over 600 skeletal muscles.
In detail
- Bones: Living tissue that is constantly remodelled; stores calcium and forms blood cells in the marrow (blut-zusammensetzung-und-aufgaben).
- Joints: Ball-and-socket (shoulder, hip), hinge (knee, elbow) and others; articular cartilage and synovial fluid reduce friction.
- Muscles: Contract; pairs such as flexors and extensors work against each other.
- Tendons and ligaments: Connect muscles to bones and bones to each other respectively.
- Load: Exercise and strength training strengthen bone density and muscles (krafttraining-fuer-anfaenger).
- Bone loss: Osteoporosis; calcium, vitamin D and exercise help prevent it (vitamin-d-und-sonnenlicht).
- Stretching: Maintains mobility (dehnen-und-beweglichkeit).
- Injuries: If a fracture is suspected, immobilise and have it medically checked (erste-hilfe-grundlagen).
