Saving water in the household
In short: Every person in Germany uses on average about 125 litres of drinking water a day. Simple measures can lower consumption and save money.
In more detail: Hot water costs twice: water and energy to heat it.
In detail
- Showering instead of bathing: A bath uses about 150 litres, a short shower 40 to 60.
- Water-saving shower head and aerator: Reduce flow without noticeable loss of comfort.
- Toilet: Use the economy flush; repair leaking cisterns.
- Dripping taps: Repair them (wasserhahn-tropft-reparieren).
- Dishwasher and washing machine: Only run full, use eco programmes.
- Garden: Collect rainwater, water early in the morning.
- Check the water meter: If it runs without consumption, there is a leak.
- Drinking water: Tap water is well monitored (trinken-und-fluessigkeitsbedarf).
