Learning piano and keyboard
In short: The piano is a good starter instrument because you can see pitches on the keyboard. A keyboard or digital piano with weighted keys is enough to begin. Posture, fingering and regular practice are important.
In more detail: The keys repeat in octaves: seven white and five black per octave. C is just to the left of the two black keys.
In detail
- Posture: Sit upright, wrists loose, fingers slightly curved.
- Fingering: Thumb to little finger are 1 to 5; good fingering makes runs smooth.
- Both hands: Right hand usually melody (treble clef), left accompaniment (bass clef) (noten-lesen-grundlagen).
- Chords: Play triads and accompany simple songs (akkorde-grundlagen).
- Soft and loud: Touch strength determines volume (pianoforte).
- Practice plan: 20–30 minutes daily: technique, piece, repetition.
- Digital piano: Headphones allow quiet practice.
