No-claims class in car insurance
In short: The no-claims class (SF class) shows how many years you have driven claim-free. The higher the class, the lower the premium.
In more detail: Each claim-free year brings a better class and so a discount. A claim you are at fault for leads to a downgrade.
In detail
- Starting out: Newcomers start in SF 0 or SF ½ and pay a lot. Young drivers can ride along on their parents’ policy (second car rule).
- Downgrade: After a claim the premium rises for several years. Small claims are often better paid yourself.
- Transfer: The class can be transferred within the family under conditions.
- Third-party, partial and comprehensive cover: Liability is compulsory. Partial cover includes theft, glass and wildlife, comprehensive adds self-inflicted damage to your own car.
- Switching: Until 30 November you can usually cancel for the year end and compare.
