Labelling duties in online trade
In short: Whoever sells products must observe, depending on the goods, manufacturer details, warnings, CE marking, textile labelling or a packaging licence. Since the end of 2024 the EU General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) applies.
In more detail: The GPSR requires among other things manufacturer details and a responsible person in the EU, product information and safety notes. Sales via platforms are covered too. For self-made goods you are the manufacturer yourself.
In detail
- Textiles: state the fibre composition.
- Electrical equipment: registration under ElektroG with the ear foundation.
- Batteries: registration under BattG.
- Packaging: licensing under VerpackG, entry in LUCID.
- Food: hygiene, allergens, registration with the veterinary office.
- Toys and cosmetics: special requirements and tests.
- Tip: before starting sales research the duties per product group.
