Trades that require a permit
In short: For most activities the business registration is enough. Some trades also need a permit because they involve danger or special reliability, for example restaurants, security services, pawn broking or estate agents.
In more detail: For trades requiring a permit the trade office checks reliability (police certificate, extract from the central trade register) and possibly expertise. Other rules apply to crafts, which are organised under Annex A and B of the Crafts Code.
In detail
- Permit required: restaurant (depending on the state), security, pawn broking, auctions, estate agents and developers, travel agencies organising trips.
- Crafts: for licensed crafts (Annex A) you usually need the master craftsman’s certificate and entry in the crafts register.
- Food: for homemade goods (cakes, jam) hygiene rules and notification to the food authority apply.
- Travelling trade: whoever actively sells outside the business premises often needs a travelling trade card.
- Minors: for trades requiring a permit, reliability is hard to check and authorities are cautious.
