Bookkeeping software and cash book
In short: For a small business a tidy spreadsheet or simple bookkeeping software is enough. What matters are complete receipts, timely entries and, for cash, a proper cash book.
In more detail: The principles of proper accounting require business transactions to be recorded completely, correctly, promptly and traceably. Changes must remain visible. For the EÜR the aim is: income and expenses per receipt, totals at year end.
In detail
- Spreadsheet: date, receipt no., text, income, expense, account. Never delete rows, only correct.
- Software: simple programs for the self-employed produce invoices, receipt filing and EÜR reports.
- Cash book: for cash sales keep it daily, the cash balance must match.
- Receipt filing: folder or digital, sorted by month, see Retention periods for receipts.
- GoBD: digital records must remain unalterable and readable.
- Till: there is no obligation to use a cash register, but if you use an electronic one, rules apply (security device, receipt issuance).
