Working with the mouse
In short: With the mouse you move the pointer across the screen. A click selects something, a double-click opens it, a right-click shows a menu with more options.
In more detail: A mouse usually has two buttons and a scroll wheel. You click left to select or open things. Right opens the context menu. The wheel scrolls through long pages. On a laptop the touchpad does these jobs.
In Depth
- Single click (left): Select, press buttons, open links in the browser.
- Double-click: Two quick clicks open a program or file.
- Right-click: Opens the context menu (for example copy, rename, delete).
- Dragging: Hold the left button, move the mouse, release. This moves windows and files.
- Scroll wheel: Scrolls up and down. With Ctrl held it zooms.
- Touchpad: One finger moves the pointer, two fingers scroll, tapping clicks.
- Tip: Pointer speed and left-handed mode are in the settings under “Mouse”.
