Setting bookmarks and downloading files
In short: Bookmarks remember websites for later (Ctrl + D). Downloads load files from the internet onto your computer, usually into the “Downloads” folder.
In more detail: With bookmarks (favourites) you do not need to type addresses. When downloading, the browser copies a file from a server to your device. That is handy but a gateway for malware.
In Depth
- Setting a bookmark: Star in the address bar or Ctrl + D.
- Organising bookmarks: Bookmarks bar, folders by topic.
- Starting a download: Click the download link. The browser shows progress.
- Where is the file? Ctrl + J opens the downloads list. Default folder: “Downloads”.
- Caution: Only download from trustworthy sites. Open files with extensions such as .exe or .scr only if you expect them.
- PDFs and pictures: Usually open directly in the browser; “Save” downloads them.
