Natural cosmetics seals

In short: “Natural cosmetics” is not a protected term. Seals such as COSMOS, NATRUE or BDIH, which have their criteria checked, are reliable.

In more detail: Such seals specify that only certain natural or near-natural substances are used. They ban, for example, mineral oils, silicones, synthetic fragrances and microplastics. The number of levels and the strictness differ.

Our context: The product scanner gives a small bonus for seals for natural cosmetics and animal welfare, but only if they appear in the data.

In Depth

  • COSMOS: European standard (organic and natural), Ecocert and other certifiers.
  • NATRUE: three levels from natural to organic.
  • Animal welfare: The “Leaping Bunny” and the rabbit mark of the German animal welfare association show that no animal testing was done. In the EU, animal testing for cosmetics is banned.
  • Greenwashing: Check words like “natural” or flower pictures on packaging without a seal.
