Torrent Sites

In short: Torrent sites are web pages that index torrent files or magnet links and offer them for searching.

In more detail: The Pirate Bay (2003) became well known. The sites usually do not store content themselves, only references.

In Depth

Legal situation

Many sites are blocked in Germany because they mostly list copyright-infringing content. Downloading and distributing protected works is unlawful.

Risks

Malware in supposedly well-known files, aggressive advertising (adware, pop-ups), warning letters. Legal sources are official download pages of projects such as Linux distributions. See torrent.
